Life Member - Army

Raymond Richard Martinez

January 3, 1947 — January 9, 2026

Raymond R. Martinez (79) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away January 9, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Ray was born to Pete and Lena Martinez on January 3, 1947. He was drafted into the US Army with the 101st ABN division in Vietnam for two years, extending his service by three months to return with his cousin Johnny Otero. 

He later returned to marry his Guernsey-Sunrise HS sweetheart, Jeanie (Brown). Ray was an orderly at the Torrington Hospital for two years before earning an Associate of Arts degree from Eastern Wyoming College. He worked for the ASCS for three years in Laramie. Ray joined the National Guard for 20 years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. He retired from the Frontier Refinery after 33 years. Ray was a member of the Cheyenne VFW 11453 and served as a Eucharist minister and scripture reader at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, who survived a debilitating stroke, and participated in the CRMC Stroke Support Group.

Ray held many important positions in life and excelled at them. He was a loving and faith-filled man, respected by all who met him. His family and friends could always count on him, and he was admired and adored by all who were lucky to meet him.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Martinez; his children, Amanda Martinez, Andrea Franco (Bob Fife Jr), and Amber Martens (Aaron); his grandchildren, Xavier France, Bobby Fife, Cody and Alexis Fife; and his great-grandchildren, Bradley Ray and Amelia Fife.

Vigil Service, rosary and slide show will be in Cheyenne at Schrader Funeral Home on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 5pm. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Trinity on Friday, January, 30th at 10:30am, with burial to follow at Beth El Cemetery. Please join the family for a reception following the burial at Holy Trinity's Mother Cabrini Hall.

Ray and Jeanie Martinez recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

The couple met while at Guernsey Sunrise High School. Ray Martinez and Jeanie Brown married July 12, 1969, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hartville.

Ray served in the U.S. Army with the 101st ABN division in Vietnam. He entered Eastern Wyoming College, marrying his high school sweetheart while attending there.

He holds an Associate of Arts degree from the college. Jeanie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and a masters in public administration from the University of Wyoming.

Ray retired from the Frontier Refinery after 33 years. He is a member of the Cheyenne VFW 11453 and is a Eucharist minister and scripture reader at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Jeanie held membership in the Cheyenne Noon Rotary for 10 years and After Hours Rotary. She volunteered on the Southeast Wyoming Foster Grandparent Advisory Council.

They have three children: Amanda Martinez, Andrea Franco and Amber Martens, all of Cheyenne. They have one grandchild.
