James Edward "Jim" McKinnon Sr., 81, died April 12 at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne.
Mr. McKinnon was born March 16, 1926, in Westcliffe, Colo., and had lived here since 1964.
He was a courier for Federal Express, cook, manager, truck driver, and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy. He also was a member of the Oddfellows, and was a charter member and past commander of VFW Post 11453.
Mr. McKinnon is survived by a son, James E. McKinnon Jr., of Cheyenne; two daughters, Judy Allard and Lisa Wilson, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Dorothy Waldron of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren, Aaron McKinnon of Crown Point, Ind., Matthew McKinnon of Cheyenne, Sam Daly of Fort Collins, Christopher McVay of Estes Park, Colo., and Lindsi McVay of Fort Collins; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Brendyn McKinnon, both of Crown Point, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth on Sept. 11, 1997. They were married June 2, 1947, in Cheyenne. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Anna McKinnon Sr.; two brothers, Robert and Roy McKinnon Jr.; two sisters, Shirley and Joann; a daughter-in-law, Linda McKinnon and a great-grandson, David McKinnon.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Christian Church with the Rev. Kurt Borgaard officiating.
Interment will be in Beth El Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob Palmer, Sam Daly, Aaron McKinnon, Christopher McVay, David Donaldson, and Rick Gano.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim McKinnon Jr., Judy Allard, Lisa Wilson and Lindsi McVay. Military honors will be provided by the Wyoming Air National Guard Flag Heritage Team.
Following the interment service there will be a reception at First Christian Church, 219 W. 27th Street.
Family received friends at 2949 Henderson Drive over the weekend.
