Louis Wascher
September 15, 1927 — April 24, 2013
Louis J. "Jack" Wascher, 85, of Cheyenne died
April 24, 2013 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was born
September 15, 1927 in LaGrange, WY to Lewis and Alice Wascher. He
graduated from Hillsdale High School. He was a veteran of WWII serving
in the United States Navy for 8 years. He retired from Western Area
Power where he was a high voltage electrician and supervisor of area
substations. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Masonic
Lodge Burns Chapter #41, A.F. & A.M. where he was Past Master, a
life member of VFW Frontier Chapter 11453. He is survived by his wife,
Shirley Wascher of Cheyenne; daughter Connie Wascher Ludtke of Cheyenne;
granddaughter, Mandy Ludtke Lowe and her husband Eric of Burns; sister,
Lois Spatz of Hillsdale and his beloved cat, Barney. He was preceded
in death by his parents and a brother, Dutch Wascher. Cremation has
taken place under the care of Schrader Funeral Home and private family
services will be held at Hillsdale Cemetery at a later date.

Jack Wascher, born September, 1927, enlisted
in the US Navy in 1945. He rose to the rank of
Petty Officer 2nd class and was rated a
Damage Controlman. In this technical
specialty he performed the work necessary
for damage control, ships stability, firefighting and preparing defenses against
chemical, biological and radiological warfare
attacks. He served aboard the aircraft
carrier - USS Cape Gloucester (CVHE-109)
and the destroyer escort - USS Nicholas
(DDE-449) before being stationed for shore
duty in Washington DC for 2 years. In 1053,
after 8 years of service, Jack accepted an
honorable discharge and moved back to
Cheyenne. He worked for Cheyenne Light
Fuel & Power and the Western Area Power
Company before retiring in 1986.
An active member of First Baptist Church
since 1953, Jack has served as church Trustee
for 3 terms and President of the Forever
Young Seniors Club for over 14 years.
He is a Past Master and member of the
AF&AM Masonic Lodge #41 in Burns, WY, a
member of the American Legion, and a
founding life member of VFW Post 11453.
Jack and his wife, Shirley, have been happily
married for 63 years and have a daughter,
Connie Ludke and granddaughter, Mandy.
